This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, stored and shared when you use the Cardboard Companion App (the “App”) or associated applications. This privacy policy is effective from December 1, 2020.
When you use the App, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including phone model, operating system, and IP address. Additionally, as you browse the App, we collect information about the individual screens that you view. We refer to this automatically collected information as “Device Information”.
We may collect the following:
Name, phone number, email, password, and photos. Any password that you enter as the input for your account is stored as an encrypted copy. We also store the data you enter for your digital game collection, your tracked plays, and events attended or created. We refer to this information as “Personal Data”.
When we talk about “Personal Information” in this Privacy Policy, we are talking both about Device Information and Personal Data.
We use the Personal Data that we collect to:
- Communicate with you;
- Verify new accounts and authenticate sign in attempts;
- Observe your gaming behavior and/or general trends of all users; and
- When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, potentially provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services.
We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our App (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the App, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).
You do not automatically receive marketing emails from us. If you wish to receive emails regarding offers and product updates you must opt in to receive these merchandising newsletter emails. You may opt out from these newsletters at any time.
When you sign up for our newsletters, we are able to send you notifications of new product launches and features, events hosted by us, and other information of special interest particularly related to new game launches or updates.
Here at Cardboard Companion we take your privacy very seriously. We have implemented processes and protocols of the most stringent in nature, to reduce the risk of any event that could compromise your personal information. Any customer data that we store on location in the United States is secured by encrypted data. We restrict access to customer data on our platform by only providing access to a limited number of employees who have been vetted for their secure privacy practices. These employees act on a need-to-know basis in order to provide you with a satisfactory customer experience.
At Cardboard Companion we use https encrypted servers that communicate with databases that area also encrypted. Calls that are made to servers use encrypted tokens called JWT. Our back-end code is built on a platform called Vercel. You can view their Privacy Policy here:

Discord Privacy PolicyWe do reserve the right to sell certain data that we collect to third parties. Any data sold to third parties will be anonymous—it will contain information on how you use the app that is tied to a unique ID, however it will NOT contain any personally identifiable information, such as that which you provided at time of signing up. Should you NOT want your usage data sold, please contact our Privacy Officer to opt out of that program.
Finally, we reserve the right to share your Personal Information in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.
If you are a European citizen, you have the right to access personal information we hold about you and to ask that your personal information be corrected, updated, or deleted. If you would like to exercise this right, please contact us through the contact information below.
Additionally, if you are a European citizen, we note that we are processing your information in order to fulfill contracts we might have with you (for example if you make an order through the App), or otherwise to pursue our legitimate business interests listed above. Additionally, please note that your information will be transferred outside of Europe, including to Canada and the United States. California’s “Shine the Light” law permits customers in California to request certain details about how certain types of their information are shared with third parties and, in some cases, affiliates, for those third parties’ and affiliates’ own direct marketing purposes. Under the law, a business should either provide California customers certain information upon request or permit California customers to opt in to, or opt out of, this type of sharing.
Cardboard Companion may share personal information as defined by California’s “Shine the Light” law with third parties and/or affiliates for such third parties’ and affiliates’ own direct marketing purposes. If you are a California resident and wish to obtain information about our compliance with this law, please contact our Data Protection Officer via the contact information below. Requests must include “California Privacy Rights Request” in the first line of the description and include your name, street address, city, state, and ZIP code. Please note that Cardboard Companion is not required to respond to requests made by means other than through the provided email address or mail address.
Furthermore, if you are a California resident, the California Consumer Protection Act, CA Civil Code Section 1798.100, was enacted to afford you rights around your data privacy. Cardboard Companion currently does not meet the requirements to be bound by the CCPA, but please note we take protecting your information seriously and have protocols and procedures in place to do so.
Any California residents under the age of eighteen (18) who have registered to use the Cardboard Companion Online Services and posted content or information can request that such information be removed by contacting our Data Protection Officer. Requests must state that the user personally posted such content or information and detail where the content or information is posted. We will make reasonably good faith efforts to remove the post from prospective public view.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons.
